About the department:
Orthodontics is the branch of Science and the art of dentistry which deals with the development and positional anomalies of the teeth and the jaws as they affect oral health and the physical, esthetic and mental well being of the person .It is a special branch of dentistry which deals with the alignment of the teeth.
The Department of Orthodontics started functioning with UG programme (BDS) since 2001. Presently it is located in the A wing first floor and spreads around 5500 sq. feet area .Post graduate programme (MDS) commenced in the department from year 2010-2011 with 2 seats/year. At present we have 6 post graduate students performing their rigorous academic activities like presenting seminars, journal club, case discussions and performing fixed, removable and functional mechanotherapy, use of mini â€“implants and various types of surgical orthodontic therapies. The department has 21 working dental chairs, special undergraduate , post graduate sections , special photography room , x ray tracing room and advanced equipments and instruments, seminar room with modern audio-visual aids, separate PG room, sterilization room and library as per DCI requirements. Students get exposure to large number of patients as the daily OPD of the department is more than 40 patients. We cater services to more than 1500 patients per month with advanced treatment options to achieve excellent results. More than 21 national research publications and 4 on going projects are enough to represent our research activity.

Kolhapur offers a graduate and three-year post-graduate program leading to a
Master of Dental Surgery. The advance training program in Orthodontics is
accredited by the Dental Council of India.
The section of Orthodontics has a wide range of activities covering all aspects of Orthodontics-

Goals of the Department -
1. The goal of the Orthodontics program is to provide a basic and advanced education in Orthodontics for improved understanding of the diagnosis and treatment planning of various types of malocclusions and good skill in their management.
2. To transform the nature of dental education and practice in ways that will dramatically improve the way we serve our students, our patients, and the surrounding community.
To foster the development of dentist who will bringing profound integrity and character to every endeavour, while demonstrating the highest quality of clinical knowledge and expertise.
